Have you guys liked HONY aka Humans of New York already? If not, I insist you to do that asap! I've been following Brandon Stanton for a few months now and I absolutely love his work. His portraits of complete strangers are simply amazing, funny and super inspiring! After taking a picture of a young man who told him about his school and the person who influenced him the most in his life, the whole HONY community raised more than one million dollars in about five days to send the kids from his school to Harvard. This is unbelievable! I really have to admit that this website makes me happy every single time Brandon posts a new picture. In one of today's pictures that young man was talking to US president Barack Obama and these lines are stuck in my head now:
'Because if you're worrying about yourself - if you're thinking: Am I succeeding? Am I in the right position? Am I being appreciated? - then you're going to end up feeling frustrated and stuck. But if you can keep it about the work, you will always have a path. There is always something to be done.'
- B. Obama
Seriously, this was much needed for me to read today. I had the very best first week of holidays. I worked on my coats every single day, spent time with the girls and worked in the shop. But still, I always asked myself if I am in the right place, if people will appreciate my coats .. if you guys appreciate my blog, if I chose the right studies or if it would be easier to just work in a shop and live near my family. There are days when I think giving up is easier but at the end of that day I know why I can't give up - because this is what I love and there is always something to be done. I am just glad to read that even a guy like Obama gets frustrated and stuck, just like me. Maybe some of you feel the same, but you should always remember how far you've come, not just how far you have to go. You are not where you want to be, but neither are you where you used to be. So here's an all black look for you guys, with one of the coats from my collection. It's got a peter pan collar, hidden push buttons and a belt made out of the lining thats inside. It's pretty big and outwards but that is the kind of silhouette I wanted to create. Stay tuned for the other coats, we will shoot the lookbook at the end of February with my dear friend Emma! Can't wait to tell you more and hope you like it! xx
